Our 8th Anniversary!
Founded in 2001 by Rev. Jonathan L. Weaver, Pastor of Greater Mt. Nebo African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bowie, Maryland, Richard Allen Community Development Corporation is governed by a Board of Directors. Rev. Weaver is the Chairman of the RACDC Board of Directors. The vision and purpose of the Pan African Festival is to unite families and heighten the awareness of issues that affect people of African ancestry. The Festival bridges and connects with the family traditions of unity within the African community in Prince George's County, Maryland. The Festival focuses on education, health and entertainment available to the local and international communities.
Music, Food, and Family - Our Signature!
The Festival's signature draws are music, foods, fashions and family. Over the years, 3 thousand - 5 thousand festival goers have enjoyed several hours of live music and dance. The Festival is held on the grounds of Greater Mt. Nebo AME Church, located at 1001 Old Mitchellville Road in Bowie, Maryland. The Festival prides itself on the tradition of family unity and consistently features local African entertainers. Supported by 100 church and community volunteers, the Pan African Festival is truly a community event.
Something for Everyone!
There are vendors selling crafts and food of all ethnic backgrounds. People can receive free health screenings. The children get a chance to listen to storytellers and have fun with clowns, as well as enjoy the Moon Bounce. The children always play basketball and eat snow cones and popcorn; and the don't' forget cotton candy. It is a truly a day for kids to stay out all day and have fun and forget about the play station and the TV.
